2011 Doncaster Mile Nominations / Weights

The nominations still in the running to compete in this year’s Doncaster Mile have been released along with their weights today.

There are 220 hopefuls still with a chance at the $2 million 1600m event.

Whobegotyou has been hit with the biggest weight of the field at 58kgs.

That’s a kilo and a half more than current Doncaster favourite More Joyous.

The top weight was beaten by More Joyous last start in the 1200m Futurity Stakes at Caulfield.

However he was making good ground towards the end so the jump in distance will certainly suit. He actually carried a kilo more in that race as well, in fact he’s carried a kilo more in his last five starts.

Whobegotyou currently sits at an $8.00 second favourite on the early Luxbet markets.

As mentioned More Joyous is favourite at $3.80 and will carry 56.5kg in the Doncaster.

She’s now won 12 from 16 starts and will need every bit of that class if she is to win and break a weight record for the Doncaster Mile.

While Maybe Mahal and Sunline carried 57kg and 58kg in 1978 and 2002 respectively, no four-year-old mare has been able to cope with this much weight.

Black Caviar certainly catches the eye when scrolling through the list and becomes even more appealing when you see the $15 odds. However the 1600m is a move Peter Moody doesn’t really need to make seems she winning the shorter sprints with ease. Rest assured though if someone from the stable were to so much as whisper that she was lining up those odds would tumble.

Behind More Joyous and Whobegotyou in the betting is Rangirangdoo with 57kg at $13.

The six year old hasn’t raced since winning the same event last year.

Hobartville Stakes winner Ilovethiscity has also made up big ground into $17 despite still being equal 48th on the ballot entry.

More Joyous stalemate Theseo is second top weight in the field at 57.5kgs, a little too much for a lot of punters and she’s out to $26.
