Waterhouse Stable To Dominate 2013 Doncaster Mile

March 13th, 2013

Gai Waterhouse has high hopes for her stable representatives in this year’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile on April 20, 2013.

The trainer will likely line up last year’s winner More Joyous, along with Pierro and Proisir in the $2 million race.

”The next few weeks will tell you exactly how the field will pan out,” Waterhouse said.

”It may this year, with the imports and the likes of More Joyous, Pierro and Proisir – just three from my yard – they could end up being one of the hottest Doncasters in a long time.

“If the imports like Fiorente keep their form, this is an international field lining up on Doncaster day.”

Waterhouse will be hoping More Joyous can successfully defend her Doncaster Mile, despite being handed the top weight of 59.5 kilograms in the race.

The hefty weight means that More Joyous will have to break a weight carrying record for mares if she wants to win the 1,600 metre race.

More Joyous has won 21 of her 30 race starts to date and has earned more than $4.49 million in prize money during her horse racing career.

The More Than Ready mare has won both of her race trials in a convincing fashion prior to her autumn racing carnival debut.

She will be looking to make up for her last start 11th placing in the Group 1 Cox Plate last October, when she runs in the 2013 Doncaster Mile.
