Yet to be defeated in two starts this preparation, exciting five-year-old Messene currently leads betting markets for the 2014 Doncaster Mile at $4.60 odds.

Securing an impressive nine wins and two places from only 12 race starts to date, Messene is without doubt one of the most exciting up-and-coming racing prospects, and is now undefeated in all races for more than a year.

Returning to the track in typically devastating for this time in, the talented Lonhro gelding won the Listed John McGrath National Sprint (1400m) comfortably on March 9th before strolling away to win the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) by nearly three lengths last time out.

A member of the in-form Team Hawkes stable, Messene will have to overcome the wide barrier 18 if to continue his incredible run of form in the 2014 Doncaster Mile, and will be partnered by jockey Corey Brown for the first time.

Having received a huge share of market attention since Doncaster Mile odds were first released on Wednesday, Weary has cut in from early odds of nearly $10 to currently feature as clear $6.50 market mover.

Yet to finish outside the places in three competitive starts this preparation, Weary was unlucky when blocked for a run and third in the TAB Rewards Maiden (1400m) first-up on February 15th, and overcame a poor jump to finish second behind Messene in the Ajax Stakes.

Jumping well, settling and perfect position on the heels of the leader and producing a strong final straight sprint to win the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) and gain a ballot-free entry into this weekend’s Doncaster Mile, trainer Chris Waller has underlined an appearance in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 19th as a likely follow-up target for Weary this season, and is confident of carry winning form through to that event as well.

Interesting featuring as the only other Doncaster Mile entrant offered at odds of less-than $10, Hawkspur opened at a quote of an even $10 before drifting out to $11 and firming back into his current price.

Touted as one to watch over the 2013 Spring racing Carnival, the talented Purrealist gelding was unable to live up to the hype and ended his forgettable season 20th in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m).

Steadily building to the task in 2014, Hawkspur finished sixth in the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) first-up after leading early, before producing a strong turn of foot to place third behind fellow Doncaster Mile acceptor Boban in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and overcoming an early check in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) most recently to finish fourth.

Having been allocated the ideal barrier 8 for the 2014 Doncaster Mile, Hawkspur will be partnered by regular jockey Jim Cassidy and offers punters exceptional value for money at current $9.50 odds.
