80 Doncaster Mile 2015 First Acceptances Taken

March 10th, 2015

On Monday Racing NSW took first acceptances for the eight Group 1 races held over the two days of The Championships next month including those for 2015 Doncaster Mile run on April 4 at Royal Randwick Racecourse.

At nominations stage last month the $3 million Group 1 The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) attracted 139 entries, a figure down to 80 milers as of yesterday at first declaration stage – up 66 from last year at the same stage.

Adding interest to this year’s Doncaster Mile field are two Japanese-trained visitors down under for a Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival raid.

Both the Yasutoshi Ikee-trained World Ace and Noriyuki Hori’s Real Impact feature in the Doncaster Mile first acceptances and betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $8 and $11 respectively to win the classic.

They are both also down to debut in Australia on March 21 at Rosehill in the $1 million Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), Nick Hall riding last-start Hong Kong Mile fourth placegetter World Ace.

Deep Impact six-year-old World Ace trails only one other runner in the latest Doncaster Mile odds at Ladbrokes with John Thompson’s three-year-old Fastnet Rock filly First Seal the $7.50 top fancy.

Winner of the Flight Stakes over the Randwick mile in the spring, she won the Surround Stakes second-up at her most recent run and is after another Group 1 trophy this weekend in Rosehill’s Group 1 Canterbury Classic (1500m).

Along with First Seal and World Ace the two other single figure hopes in the updated Doncaster Mile betting markets post-first acceptances are Hallowed Crown and Sweynesse who ran the quinella in last Saturday’s Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

The Bart & James Cummings-trained Street Sense colt Hallowed Crown was ultra-impressive with his win, his second for the season following a first-up victory in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) for last September’s Golden Rose champion.

John O’Shea’s Lonhro colt Sweynesse meanwhile was brave in defeat finishing runner-up in both the Hobartville and the Randwick Guineas and looks a top type for a shot at the Rosehill Guineas now over 2000m.

O’Shea and Godolphin have a strong contingent with their other major entries being last start Group 3 Liverpool City Cup winner on debut down under It’s Somewhat and High Chaparral stallion Contributer coming off a winning Apollo Stakes – Chipping Norton Stakes double.

Randwick Guineas third past the post, the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Shooting To Win meanwhile is another top three-year-old colt still in Doncaster Mile contention at $11, the Caulfield Guineas winner luckless in defeat the other day.

Three-year-olds have won four of the past 10 editions of the Doncaster Mile including Sacred Falls for his first in 2013 and there is plenty of love for the youngsters in this year’s race again.

Chris Waller’s dual defending champion Sacred Falls meanwhile is back for a shot at an historic third straight Doncaster Mile win.

Waller has another imposing hand in the entries numbers-wise, Sydney’s leading trainer aiming for his fifth Doncaster Mile victory since 2008.

Along with Sacred Falls his other big name players in 2015 include Cox Plate winning English import Adelaide, Epsom Handicap winner He’s Your Man and Kermadec who was fourth last weekend in the Australian Guineas.

Canterbury Stakes winner Cosmic Endeavour leads Gai Waterhouse’s charge for her first win since More Joyous in 2012; the Team Hawkes-trained super sprinter Chautauqua is still in the mix despite the TJ Smith Stakes being his more likely target on the same day; Peter Moody has CF Orr Stakes winner Dissident high up the betting; and Caulfield Cup third placed mare Lucia Valentina is being kept safe in Doncaster betting having also been accepted for a host of other races over The Championships.

2015 Doncaster Mile final declarations are out on Tuesday March 31 revealing the field so stay tuned.

In the meantime get over to Ladbrokes.com.au and open an account with the country’s leading online bookie rewarding new players with up to $250 in bonus bets this season!
