Suavito Ready for 2015 Doncaster Mile Test

March 31st, 2015

Talented mare Suavito has returned to racing in career-best form this year and can do no more in preparations for Saturday’s featured Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick, according to trainer Nigel Blackiston.

Posting a commendable race record of seven wins and as many minor places over her 17 career starts to date, Suavito broke through for a maiden victory at the highest level of racing when taking out the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) first-up this time; repeating the dose in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) last time out.

Believing the race to be the toughest of the autumn calendar, Blackiston told Racenet he is pleased with the condition of the Thorn Park mare and is confident she is ready to make an impact on the 2015 Doncaster Mile.

“For me it is the hardest race on the Australian racing calendar. It’s just a tough, tough race to win,” Blackiston said.

“She’s got a light weight and she’s a tough mare. Now she’s got a decent gate, she’ll be right there.

“She’s pretty clean winded and I galloped her on Saturday morning the reverse way and I galloped her again this morning.

“She worked on the steeple grass with a mate and worked over six furlongs and home nicely over the last three furlongs. She ran her last 400 in about 23 (seconds).

“She’s ready for a tough mile.”

Revealing he was unsure she would make the cut, Blackiston was understandably thrilled with Suavito snuck into the 2015 Doncaster Mile final field in position 19 (of 20), who will leave from the rails draw on Saturday.

“Until you see your name in the field, you don’t know, so it was a bit of a relief to see her there,” Blackiston he added.

Having been confirmed to be partnered by Singapore-based jockey Corey Brown, Suavito will carry just 50.5kgs in the 2015 Doncaster Mile and is currently available at generous odds of $17 for success with leading online bookie
