Kermadec looked as though he was going to miss out on a start in the Doncaster Mile after he was initially named as the second emergency, but the scratchings of Moriarty and It’s Somewhat meant that he earnt a start in the race and he took advantage of the opportunity to record a maiden win at Group 1 level.

The Teofilo colt was settled in a midfield position by Glen Boss in the early stages of the Doncaster Mile and looked as though he would be blocked for a run at the final stages, but he exploded when he found clear running to record a most impressive win from Real Impact and Royal Descent.

The Doncaster Mile victory was the sixth for Boss, but the leading hoop was quick to pay credit to the outstanding effort of Kermadec.

“I am really lost for words right now,” Boss said.

“This one is probably the most special one because I have the opportunity to ride what is a beautiful colt and from the time I got on his back in the enclosure I felt very confident.

“He just came round here and he had a bit of a swagger about him and he just oozes sexy class this horse.

“He should have a better record than what he has and he just gave me an amazing feeling just then.

“He was very brave, at one point there was just no room and we were pushing through gaps and he was brave enough to do it for me.

“He was still well enough to pick up and sprint when I asked him.

“That was a soft victory and he is a very good colt.”

Kermadec’s victory delivered trainer Chris Waller his third straight victory in the Doncaster Mile and the typically emotional trainer said that he could not have been prouder of the talented colt.

Waller said that Kermadec was deserving of a win in the Doncaster Mile after he was unlucky in both the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and the leading trainer is confident that this will not be the last time the colt is successful at the highest level of racing.

“It is an unexplainable moment,” Waller said.

“He is a Group 1 horse and he proved that today, but it won’t be his last one.

“He has won his race and being a colt he has a bright future ahead.

“It is only made possible when you have a great team of staff behind me, great riders and it is just an amazing feeling.”

Kermadec is a chance of returning to racing in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick in a fortnight and you can find the best odds with
