Le Romain remains an outright $5.50 favourite in 2017 Doncaster Mile betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Redkirk Warrior ($8.50) and Happy Clapper ($9).

Will Le Romain justify favouritism and win the 2017 Doncaster Mile, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

Redkirk Warrior ($8.50)

Redkirk Warrior became the first horse to win the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) first-up for 100 years three weeks ago and will just win the Doncaster Mile, if he can recapture that form over 1600m on Saturday. Having returned to the paddock after winning the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) at only his second start in Australia, David Hayes has been thrilled with the benefit taken by the Notnowcato gelding since his first-up run and is confident that Regan Bayliss will be able to get the best from the horse from his wide draw.

Happy Clapper ($9)

Runner-up to Winx in last year’s Doncaster Mile, Happy Clapper has returned to excellent form this season and is arguably over the Doncaster Mile odds at $9 to win, or $3.10 to finish in the first three. Having finishing fourth in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and sixth in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) most notably in spring, the Teofilo gelding resumed this time for second in the Listed National Sprint (1400m) before delivering a smart field and resounding defeat in the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m) last time out on March 17th. Drawn well in barrier 2, Happy Clapper will be partnered by Blake Shinn and will have no issue in performing to a high standard with 55.5kgs in tow.

Dibayani ($51)

Dibayani is always around the mark in major feature races and is massive overs at his current Doncaster Mile odds, regardless of his last start performance. Unlucky not to be a winner at the highest level of racing, the Shamardal gelding finished an agonizingly-close second to Hauraki in the Group 1 Epson Handicap (1600m) in spring and has form around some of the Autumn Carnival’s best horses this time, including Winx and Hartnell. Champion hoop Damien Oliver will take the ride on Dibayani, who will relish only 54kgs in the Doncaster Mile.
